Bears & Butterflies meets… Dearly Beloved

For most of your guests, your wedding invite will be the first time they get a flavour of what your wedding will be like. Will it be traditional, modern, festival-style, low-key… the list is endless. It is your chance to really make an impression – great wedding stationery should get your guests excited about the day from the moment the envelope lands on their doormat.

So with all that in mind, we have found a truly fabulous design duo. Over to Abi and Ben of Dearly Beloved…

Tell us a bit about you

We are a husband and wife creative team who specialise in creating contemporary occasion stationery and beautifully crafted products. We work together from our Devon-based home studio and create everything from invitations and RSVPs to personalised favours – helping modern couples tie the knot in style.

When and why did you decide to start your own company?

We started the company in 2015 but have been freelance illustrators and graphic designers since graduating.

How did you come up with your company name?

We thought Dearly Beloved would be a good fit since it is such an iconic phrase from traditional wedding ceremonies. You rarely hear it at weddings these days, so to us it feels a little nostalgic.

What’s the best bit of your job?

One of the best things about what we do is that we can work with real people to interpret their ideas into visuals for their big day. It’s really great to be able to take a little detail that couples feel represents them, whether it’s a photo of their favourite place or their favourite album cover, and use it as inspiration for the stationery for the celebration of their love.

What can people expect if they book you?

They can expect a completely open process, we like people to work with us throughout the process to make sure they are completely happy with the final designs.

What makes you different to your competitors?

We aim to create modern designs for modern couples, not all traditions suit brides and grooms nowadays and so although we do create the traditional items (invitation cards, menus etc) we have also created invitations in the style of gig posters and hanging mobiles! If we can figure out how to print it – we will create it for you!

What piece of advice would you give to couples planning a wedding?

Just be yourself! It’s your celebration, do it your way!

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

Well as newlyweds ourselves we are pretty biased; we think the perfect day was our own wedding day. The whole day was filled with laughter, friends, family and good food! We spent the whole day by the sea, sang motown songs instead of hymns at our ceremony, had a cocktail hour with drinks from our favourite countries and finished the day with a whole lot of dancing to a live 8-piece funk and soul band. We wore what we felt comfortable in. Abi went glam and instead of a dress wore a bespoke jumpsuit with a cape with rose gold leather flower detail (created by Ailsa Munro) and Ben looked dapper in his trusty navy blue wool suit and a skinny mustard crocheted tie).

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Wow that’s a hard one… We are in the process of developing a range of designs for kids’ stationery and giftware as well as artwork for the home. It would be great to see that take off and perhaps even have our own little shop space alongside our studio.
