01 Nov Bears & Butterflies meets… The Plank Company Events
When Brook and I were planning our wedding we both had quite a clear view of how we wanted it to be (fortunately we agreed on what that was!). Finding a location was easy and we quickly found a local company that would provide yurts for the reception. However, when it came to tables and chairs I was a bit stumped. I didn’t want plastic or metal conference style furniture that would need to be covered up, I wanted something natural and rustic that would work with the yurt setting. That’s when I stumbled upon The Plank Company. They provided exactly what we were after and were so friendly and professional to boot. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Even better, they’ve now created some phenomenally beautiful domes that will instantly give some serious wow-factor to your event.
Enough from me, over to Ed to tell you more about the company…
When did you decide to start your own company?
Me and my business partner Josh started working together a little over 2 years ago now, we’ve come a long way since starting out in Josh’s barn with a leaking roof.
What made you decide to start your business?
Working with reclaimed materials has always been a passion of both of ours. Josh actually made his own furniture for his wedding and that gave us the idea to build a set of reclaimed tables and benches to hire ourselves and it just grew from there.
What’s the best bit of your job?
Designing and making something that has such an impact on someone’s wedding or event. I love seeing the photos that we get sent from people’s parties with all our domes and furniture looking amazing. It’s great seeing how people express their personalities with decorations and themes on their big day.
What can people expect if they hire you?
We always offer a friendly service that’s professional but laid back. Everything we make is handmade in our workshop and is either locally sourced or reclaimed.
What makes you different to your competitors?
The obvious difference is the craftsmanship that goes into everything we make. We achieve a quality finish with a rustic charm that you just can’t get with more generic, factory-made products. We carry this right through from our bespoke furniture to our spectacular hand-built Geo Domes.
What piece of advice would you give to couples planning a wedding?
Plan and book all your suppliers as early as possible. A year really isn’t very long in the weddings and events industry!
What three things can’t you live without?
Our admin lady Lianne, who holds The Plank Company Events together. The sea and countryside sparks creativity and has played a key role in the inspiration and ethos within our company.
