Bears & Butterflies meets… Original Wedding Tea Towels

Like quite a lot of wedding suppliers, Bears & Butterflies was born when we were planning our own wedding and couldn’t find quite what we were after. The downside of this is that once you start working in the wedding industry and meeting all the fab and truly original wedding suppliers that are out there you immediately wish you could go back in time and have them all at your wedding! Don’t get me wrong, I loved our wedding day but I was just so unaware of all the amazingness that is around. This is definitely how I felt when I came across Karen and Original Wedding Tea Towels – it’s so ingenious. A wedding invite that your guests can actually use for years to come. Pure brilliance. Over to Karen…

When did you decide to start your own company?

Way back in 2009, Ben & I got married… Ben’s a designer so we knew he had to come up with something really cool for our invitations. After a couple of failed attempts, he hit on sending a Wedding Tea Towel! Our guests totally fell in love with them and the RSVP’s came flooding in so quickly that we knew we couldn’t keep the idea to ourselves! That’s when we became the inventors of the Wedding Tea Towel!

What made you decide to start your business?

Well, in all truth… we didn’t actually decide to start the business as such! I’d just had our first baby and wasn’t keen on going back to my full time job (as fab as it was, and I really mean that!) so we decided we’d build a pretty basic website and see if anyone was interested. Within days, we had our first order and it all took off from there!

What’s the best bit of your job?

The creativity and the brides (sorry grooms, you’re lovely too… but it is 99% brides for me day to day). Everyone is just so lovely to work with, and so happy and excited to be planning their wedding. It’s such an honour to be a small part of a day that is so special and will be remembered for the rest of their lives together.

What can people expect if they choose Wedding Tea Towels?

A friendly and effortless service. Our aim is to design every wedding invitation as though it’s our own. I’m on hand to help and offer advice every step of the way. Once our couples have the finished wedding tea towels in their hand, they’ll be so over the moon, they will probably cry actual happy tears (this has honestly happened with our couples, more than a few times!)

What piece of advice would you give to couples planning a wedding?

Relax! And don’t be afraid to do things how you want to do them.

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

That depends on my mood. Some days I want to bury myself in Wedding Tea Towels and I’m so focussed that I can’t stop. Other days, I can’t think of anything more perfect than spending time with Ben & our three children doing total Mum stuff. But I’d also be lying if I didn’t tell you that some days my perfect day would be on a hot, desert island… alone!

What would be your dream honeymoon?

We took our (then) 1 year old son on our honeymoon with us and we went cruising around the Med. It was my absolute dream honeymoon. The weather was lovely and Archie was literally the star of the ship!

What three things can’t you live without?

Blusher (not vain, just pale!)
My husband and children
My phone
(these are in no particular order!!)

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Who knows! We have a really cool idea in the pipeline as an extension to the wedding tea towel business but we’ve just got to work it through. Watch this space…
